This one is worth a post because it is not just a leaderboard update. It is the first big test after the European Open, which means we get Major momentum, Nordic woods, and a few chase card names that can still crash the party.
Round-one standings
- MPO: Niklas Anttila opened at 10 under. Calvin Heimburg, Jakub Knapek, Mauri Villmann, and Roland Kour are all one back at 9 under.
- The chase is loud: Gannon Buhr and Ricky Wysocki are sitting at 5 under. That is not panic time, but it does mean both of them need a cleaner Saturday.
- FPO: Kristyna Jurcikova came out hot at 7 under, Maria Eldey Kristinardottir is one back, and Eveliina Salonen plus Holyn Handley are still right there at 5 under.
Why Sweden has bite
DGPT describes Ymergardens as a championship test with wooded fairways, open shots, elevation, and a 718-foot downhill fifth. Translation for the rest of us: you can score here, but you cannot fake your angles.
The forecast also has summer heat in the mix, so stamina matters. If you are watching the final stretch, pay attention to players who keep the same tempo late in the round. Hot weather makes sloppy footwork show up fast.
The real story is momentum
Eveliina Salonen just finished off the career Major Grand Slam at the European Open. That is huge. Now she is two back after round one in Sweden, which puts her in the perfect spot to pressure the lead without needing hero golf.
Buhr is the other big storyline. PDGA had him at five Elite Series and Major wins in 2026 after the European Open, plus his fifth MPO Major. He is five off Anttila right now, so Saturday becomes a very clean question: does the world number one press early, or let the course come back to him?
Small news that actually matters
PDGA also rolled out a useful update with Parkdly digital caddie books for 2026 Majors. That sounds quiet, but it is the kind of upgrade players feel right away. Cleaner hole maps, current rulings, QR access from tee signs, and fewer stale course notes. Good tournament information is not flashy. It just makes everyone play smarter.

If you only have time for one thing, watch the FPO chase. Salonen, Handley, Saarinen, and the young European names are packed tight enough that one clean wooded stretch can flip the whole board.
For MPO, Anttila leading at 10 under is a proper European statement. He is not borrowing the spotlight. He is standing in it.
