What to Pack for Disc Golf Tournament Weekends

Practical guidance from DiscFunktional, written for real rounds and tournament preparation.

For a disc golf tournament, pack trusted discs, water, snacks, towels, mini markers, weather layers, and a charged phone with a scorekeeping backup. Keep the items you use most within reach and check the event instructions before leaving.

Start with the round basics

  • Water, electrolytes, and easy snacks.
  • Your normal discs plus the backups you actually trust.
  • At least one mini marker in your pocket and one backup in your bag or cart.
  • A towel you can reach without stopping the card.
  • Pencils, scorekeeping backup, and a charged phone.

The best tournament gear is accessible. If you have to unpack half the bag to find a marker or towel, the item is technically packed but practically useless. Put the most-used pieces where your hand already goes.

Pack for changing conditions

Tournament days can start cold, get hot, turn windy, or add rain right when your card is farthest from the parking lot. Bring layers that are easy to add or remove, a hat, sunscreen, an extra pair of socks, and a plastic bag or pouch for wet items. Even if no rain is forecast, still plan for dew, mud, or dusty fairways.

Try your shirt, outer layer, and bag together before tournament morning. Check that you can reach and putt comfortably, then reserve a spot for the layer you take off. Keep spare socks separate from damp clothing. Use what to wear for disc golf to plan the outfit around the conditions, and check the event instructions and applicable PDGA dress code before choosing your top.

A course towel earns its spot here. It is useful for wet discs, muddy hands, cart cleanup, and quick wipe-downs between throws. Keep it clipped or placed where it can be grabbed without slowing the card.

Cart setup checklist

  • Check wheels, axle hardware, and any seat or storage attachment before leaving home.
  • Put scorecard items, snacks, and backup markers in predictable spots.
  • Keep rain gear and extra layers reachable but not in the way.
  • Make the handle comfortable if you will push the cart all day.

A well-organized cart makes tournament gear easier to reach. Before a big weekend, walk through your cart setup like you are already on hole one. If the thing you need most is buried, move it.

What to do the night before

Charge your phone, confirm tee time and course address, lay out clothes, fill water bottles, and check the tournament email or event page one more time. Put your marker, towel, and scorekeeping backup in the same place every time. That repetition makes tournament morning calmer.

If you are traveling, pack a clean shirt or hoodie for the drive home. When ordering a new layer, compare its measurements before event week; our size guide explains the different apparel cuts. After the weekend, check the label before washing and use the printed apparel care guide while repacking your kit.

Do one final walk-through before you leave: phone, wallet, water, discs, towel, marker, scorekeeping backup, keys, and shoes. Most tournament mistakes are not dramatic. They are small forgotten items that make the first round feel rushed before you ever step on the tee.

The DiscFunktional take

Good disc golf accessories do not distract you during the round. They make the day smoother and still look good when the round is over. Start with the items you touch every hole, then build the rest of the kit around real use instead of packing for every possible scenario.
